Materiality is intentionally restrained yet deeply expressive. Original hardwood floors and exposed structural elements are preserved, celebrating the buildings history while adding warmth and authenticity. These are complemented by natural wood, stone, ceramics, and leather layered with soft, neutral tones and subtle contrasts to create depth without excess. The balance between raw and refined elements introduces a rhythm that feels both organic and composed.

Serenity with statement moments.

Inviting, refined ambiance.
Janken is conceived as an immersive dining destination where culinary artistry and spatial experience converge. Located in Portlands Pearl District, the restaurant blends Japanese and Korean influences within a design language rooted in nature, intention, and fluidity. The concept draws from wabi-sabi embracing imperfection, simplicity, and the inherent beauty of natural materials to create an environment that feels both elevated and grounded.
The expansive interior is defined by its openness and scale, softened through thoughtful spatial layering. At its core, a monumental cherry blossom installation anchors the room introducing intimacy, visual drama, and a sense of quiet movement as the space flows around it. This central element not only creates a focal point but also reinforces the restaurants connection to nature and shared experience.
